Indian Railways brings online food delivery on WhatsApp: All the details

Indian Railways, through its branch called Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), has launched a new way to order food while travelling.

They’ve made it easier for passengers to access their e-catering services through a website and app.

Now, they’re taking it a step further by offering food ordering through WhatsApp. This makes it even more convenient for passengers to enjoy meals while on the train.

The business WhatsApp number +91-8750001323 is now available for this purpose.

Two-stage implementation

Initially, Indian Railways planned to roll out e-catering services on WhatsApp in two stages. In the first phase, passengers booking e-tickets will receive a message from the Business WhatsApp number, inviting them to opt for e-catering services by clicking a link to www.ecatering.irctc.co.in.

This allows customers to easily select and order meals from their preferred restaurants at stations along their journey directly through the IRCTC e-catering website, without needing to download any additional apps.

In the next phase, the WhatsApp number will become interactive, allowing passengers to chat with an AI-powered chatbot. This chatbot will help with any questions about e-catering services and even book meals for them.

WhatsApp ordering is currently available on some trains for e-catering services. Indian Railways plans to expand this to more trains based on feedback from passengers.

Indian Railways reports serving about 50,000 meals daily through IRCTC’s e-catering services on its website and app.
